POSITION SUMMARY: Is
responsible for the set-up and priming of the heart-lung machine and all
related equipment in the Operating Room.
REPORTS TO: Director, OR
Services.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
1. Regularly performs routine
perfusion procedures according to established protocols.
2. Able to quickly
troubleshoot/problem-solve abnormal situations that arises.
3. Completes all
pre-procedure checklists in detail. Accurately completes and files all
inventory and billing sheets.
4. Routinely communicates
appropriate parameters to anesthesia/surgeons.
5. Able to set-up equipment
in an emergent situation without compromising technique.
6. Processes CPB blood in a
timely fashion at the end of a case.
7. Meticulously cleans all
equipment after each use and restocks Perfusion Supplies.
8. Assists tracking of
inventory and reports any abnormally high or low levels to the appropriate
supervisor.
9. Checks the
integrity/maintenance of all equipment daily. Routinely checks the readiness of
perfusion set-ups and systems.
10. Assists Open Heart Team
as needed to better effect the workflow of the O.R. suite/schedule.
11. Keeps track of pacemakers
and sets up transducer.
12. Sets up IABP and
transports the patient to the unit. Is available to transport blood and gas.
13. Demonstrates positive
behaviors toward patients, families, physicians, and all co-workers. Responds
to customers of all age groups in a friendly, prompt, and caring manner while
maintaining confidentiality. Promotes mutual respect and professionalism.
Partners with team members to meet the needs of the customer.
14. Participates in the
hospital's performance improvement process to continuously improve the quality
of patient care and service delivery.
PHYSICAL EFFORTS:
Standing during operating
procedures. Requires walking, lifting and pulling while transporting patients.

Physicians and hospital staff.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
None.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Operating Room.
HAZARDS:
Exposure to communicable
diseases, blood and other bodily fluids.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required.
ABCP Certification (or is actively pursuing certification through the testing
process). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Able to prioritize
tasks.
