Geisinger Health Systems (GHS) in North Eastern Pennsylvania is announcing an immediate opening for a Staff Perfusionist.
The position is part of the Geisinger Heart Institute where approximately 800 cardiac surgery procedures and 1,200 blood management cases conducted each year. The successful candidate will join a hospital-based perfusion group of 8 full-time staff perfusionists who demonstrate outstanding collegiality and commitment towards professionalism. In addition to extracorporeal circulation, the Department of Perfusion Services provides a range of patient care services, including ECMO, VAD, IABP, blood management (platelet gel, autotransfusion), Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Extracorporeal Circulation, and advanced coagulation analysis.
The Department of Perfusion Services has implemented a system-wide approach to patient care and administration. GHS is composed of a 3 hospital system, 2 of which perform cardiopulmonary bypass in support of cardiac surgery. The staff position will be primarily based in the Danville area at Geisinger Medical Center, with occasional coverage at our facilty, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, located in Wilkes Barre, PA.
The Department of Perfusion Services is committed to an evidence-based approach to medicine and utilizes a best-practice philosophy to techniques and technologies of extracorporeal circulation and blood management. The Department is also active in research, with multiple on going clinical trials and a substantial publication record. Primary research interests include perfusion safety, outcomes analysis, variability reduction, blood management and perfusion improvement processes. The Department is also an intimately involved with other services within the health system serving on various hospital commitees.
Potential applicants should be certified or eligible for certification through the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and possess a minimum of a Baccalaureate degree. Consideration will be given to all qualified applicants.
Northeastern Pennsylvania is well know for its outdoor recreational opportunities, but is less than an hours drive to the famed Poconos resort areas. Danville is conveniently located close to several metropolitan centers, including New York (2 hrs), Philadelphia (2 hrs), and Washington D.C. (3hrs).
