Description
Accountable for adhering to facility mission, including meeting behavioral expectations (compassion, caring and confidentiality), providing excellence in health care delivery, supporting dignity of all persons (empowerment) and responsible stewardship of resources.
Maintains accurate perfusion records.
Develops and employs a written pre-bypass list.
Establishes and maintains the appropriate anticoagulation status of the patient according to established protocol.
Maintains a flow rate of at least 2.OLM2. Flow rates less than this shall be at the surgeon's request or during the weaning process.
Maintains gas exchange during bypass either by alpha stat or pH stat standards. Initial gas flow rates shall be set as per the oxygenator manufacturer recommendation.
Maintains blood pressure between 50 and 100 mmHg while on bypass. Blood pressure not within these parameters, shall be treated as per the drug protocol, or be referred to the acting anesthesiologist.
Maintains a safe operating level within the extracorporeal circuit during extracorporeal circulation.
Employs appropriate safety and monitoring devices.
Ensures adequate stocking and cost containment of perfusion related supplies.
Monitors the maintenance of the perfusion equipment and refers such equipment maintenance according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
Maintains and operates laboratory analysis equipment according to CLIA and CAP guidelines and under the direction of the laboratory.
Follows guidelines that maintain safety for oneself, patients, visitors, and co-workers and if classified as a category I or II employee under OSHA regulations, adheres to OSHA standards by wearing personal protective equipment, following universal precautions and being knowledgeable about blood borne pathogens.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE
Current certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion and maintenance of required continuing education. Must have the ability to consistently communicate with cardiovascular surgeons. Analytical skills are necessary to gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data. Does not pose a direct threat or risk to the safety and health of themselves and other employees.
