Requirements: Must be certified or board-eligible from the American Board of Cardiovascular
Perfusionists (ABCP). Positive verbal, written, and communication skills.
Must interact professionally with staff, peers, and other hospital acquaintances.
Is required to remain current with changing pediatric perfusion practices and implement them if its determined that they will be utilized in this service. This position requires certification of graduation from an accredited school of perfusion.
A Bachelors of Science in Perfusion or related science is preferred.
Specific experience in pediatric surgery and ECMO is desired.
Job Description: The staff perfusionist is responsible for the safe set-up and operation of all types of
extracorporeal circulation, including long term ECMO and ventricular assist devices. In
addition, the perfusionist should be knowledgeable and proficient in the use of autologous blood salvaging and prepared to perform this service when deemed necessary.
The perfusionist should be
familiar with all supplies and equipment utilized by the department. The staff
perfusionist must maintain proficiency with all POCT devices. As a staff member they
should also serve as a source of information to the other medical departments
and continuously try to improve the services of the department.
For the per diem position, the perfusionist must allow for a flexible schedule to help fill in for vacations and times when the team is short staffed.
