Job Description: General Summary: Manages
extracorporeal circuit, for patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation
(ECMO).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitoring of the extracorporeal circuit
Ensuring adequate organ and tissue perfusion and oxygenation of the ECMO
patient
Troubleshooting and replacing malfunctioning components of the extracorporeal
circuit, which may include emergent life threatening situations
Under the direction of a physician is responsible for administration of fluids
and/or blood products via the extracorporeal circuit
Testing and maintaining of adequate anti-coagulation
Taking scheduled call shifts
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge:
Currently licensed by the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse, Registered
Respiratory Therapist, or Certified Clinical Perfusionist.
A working knowledge of neonatal and pediatric congenital heart disease and
physiology.
Experience in a pediatric or neonatal critical care setting.
Satisfactory completion of RUMC ECMO specialist training program
Skills:
Ability to wok in a complex clinical environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in a highly stressful work environment, where attention to
detail is necessary to prevent patient morbidity and mortality.
A high level of analytical ability is required.
Has a working knowledge of computers.
