Job Description:
The Senior Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Perfusionist will
operate the cardiopulmonary bypass machine and ancillary equipment during
cardiac surgical procedures. Perform other services for patients during surgery
as prescribed by the attending surgeon. Perform departmental duties as outlined
and directed by the chief of perfusion. Assist with development and
implementation of quality, fiscal, documentation and safety standards.
Minimum Requirements:
This position requires Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 36
months of related experience. The successful candidate will be certified by the
American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, be eligible for perfusion licensure
or currently licensed in the state of Tennessee and will have at least 2 years
of current post-graduate experience with complex congenital neonatal cardiac
surgical perfusion procedures. The candidate will be self-motivated, able to
work independently while retaining a team focus, and be an effective
communicator.
Job responsibilities will include:
Safely, accurately, and effectively operates circulatory
assist equipment.
* Operate cardiopulmonary bypass
equipment in operating room for cardiac, pulmonary, and vascular surgical
procedures.
Review, document and maintain patient medical records related
to cardiopulmonary bypass.
* Review patient records/intra-operative
monitoring as necessary to interpret and/or manipulate perfusion indices within
clearly defined protocol parameters, including, but not limited to prime
components, patient hematocrit, blood flow rates, oxygen supply and
consumption, vascular resistance, blood gas management.
* Complete perfusion written and/or
electronic medical records according to established protocol.
* Complete pre-bypass checklist to ensure
appropriate preparation for initiation of bypass.
* Record patient case data in database
for quality, budget, and statistical reporting per establishing protocol.
* Assemble and distribute perfusion case
data per protocol to patient electronic medical record and established
pediatric cardiac database(s).
* Complete and distribute billing forms,
quality improvement records, and other documentation as required.
Participate in daily maintenance of cardiopulmonary bypass
equipment and work areas.
* Check mechanical and electrical
functions of all equipment prior to use.
* Report equipment malfunctions
immediately to Chief Perfusionist/Equipment Coordinator.
* Clean equipment after each clinical
procedure as required.
* Notify Chief Perfusionist of supply
shortages as necessary.
* Troubleshoot perfusion equipment and
take corrective actions as needed per established policy and procedure.
Functions as a team member in providing adequate perfusion
services and coverage for VCH Operative Services.
* Adhere to work schedules according to
staffing needs.
* Provide on-call coverage on a
rotational basis as required.
* Maintain competence with regard to
routine/non-routine procedures and equipment.
* Assist Chief of Perfusion and Pediatric
Cardiac Surgical faculty as needed with regard to all perfusion matters.
* Collaborate with medical teams and
collect data to identify and develop methods to research and implement quality
improvement.
* Develop and maintain a multi-skilled
area of expertise and contribute to the development of protocols and
procedures, and training for cardiopulmonary perfusion services.
Additional Information:
Shift: 40 hours per week; days to be determined.
Background screens will be performed and education will be
