JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Director of Perfusion Services, a staff perfusionist is responsible for: Assembling and disassembling Heart/Lung machines. Operates the Heart-Lung machine, provides total patient support during cardiopulmonary bypass. Performs patient charting; prepares sterile packs; maintains current knowledge in perfusion.
Must perform at least one of the following functions - a) lectures on perfusion techniques or topics, b) participates in teaching CCF perfusion students, or c) participates in research/product evaluation activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Physical Demands: Completion of an accredited school of perfusion or eligible to take the certification examination of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. After selection and placement into this job, three months of on-the-job experience is required to become proficient with various perfusion techniques and equipment unique to The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and to become familiar with various operative procedures.
