RESPONSIBILITY:

Works under the supervision of the Directors Surgical Services and VP in Administration.  Also works closely with the departments of cardio-vascular surgery and ECMO.  Provides perfusion coverage for all open heart procedures and stand by on all closed heart procedures.  Available for ECMO start-up and trouble shooting.  Acts as educator in above areas when needed.  Supports and upholds Pediatric Bill of Rights.

             

JOB DUTIES:

      

      ·          Provides perfusion coverage for all open heart procedures, acts as stand-by for all closed heart procedures.

      ·          Available for IABP insertions and monitoring.

      ·          Involved in perfusion call.

      ·          Coordinates and participates in the training of students, staff and peers.

      ·          Maintains professional standards by participation in committees, seminars, and education offerings in their field.

      ·          Works closely with the department of cardio-vascular surgery.

      ·          Calculates and administers medications.

      ·          Coordinates specifics of care with staff, physicians, and supporting personnel.

      ·          Completes patient assessment and documents appropriately on perfusion record; completes appropriate records during operative procedures.

      ·          Evaluates patient's response to care and adjust plan of care as needed.

      ·          Assumes chief perfusion role as needed.

      ·          Involved in ordering, restocking, and inventory of supplies.

      ·          Maintains equipment to keep clean and functioning properly.

      ·          Maintains departmental policies and procedures.

      ·          Active in yearly departmental capital and operating budget process.

      ·          Applies knowledge of growth and development in customer interactions and treatment.

       

      EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited perfusion school with a B.S. in perfusion technology.  Eligible to sit for national boards, or actively pursuing certification if not   already certified.

      
      EXPERIENCE: Two years experience in perfusion with one year pediatric experience preferred.  Pediatric/Neonatal ECMO experience preferred.
      

      LICENSE:  CPR Certification necessary.
      

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS/MENTAL DEMANDS:

          Physical Demands: Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time, the ability to move with in and between rooms where patients are treated, the ability to push and pull equipment requiring light effort (exerting 20 pounds of force occasionally, and 10 pounds of force frequently). Precise hand eye coordination and finger dexterity is required to perform, treatments. Requires the ability to visually distinguish letters and symbols and visually assess the patient. Must be able to don personal protective equipment.

                          Mental Demands:  Requires the ability to problem solve to adapt standard clinical procedures to the individual client's need, the ability to interpret, adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions. Must be able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families and co-workers. Requires the ability to communicate verbally in writing and to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
